iPhone 18 Pro Software Update Failed: Error Occurred Downloading iOS

Some iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max users are running into a problem while updating their phone’s software. There are a few common errors that may show up when attempting to update to the latest iOS on iPhone. One of them is “Software Update Failed. An Error Occurred Downloading iOS xx.x.“

In this article, we’ll tell you some of the reasons this can happen and give you some suggestions for fixing the issue.

Why you can’t update your iPhone 18 Pro to iOS xx.x

Here are some of the reasons your iPhone’s update might fail:

• Your device isn’t able to reach the update server.
• There are problems with your Wi-Fi network connection.
• Your iPhone storage is low, and there is not enough space for the update.
• The update doesn’t complete.

How to update your iPhone 18 Pro

You can try the following suggestions to get your iPhone 18 Pro the latest iOS update.

1. Try again

The first thing you can do is try again: update your device again using the same network. If you still see an alert, try updating using another network, or update using your computer (see #3 below). If the issue happens again after trying to update with multiple networks, you can remove the update (see #5 below).

2. Ensure a good network connection

Check the following suggestions for Wi-Fi or cellular, then try downloading the update again.

• Make sure you don’t have other devices connecting to your iPhone’s hotspot.
• If you are using a VPN, turn it off.

  Use the app to turn off its features, then see if the issue continues.

Download using Wi-Fi

The best way to download an update is usually through Wi-Fi. For faster downloads, Apple recommends connecting to a Wi-Fi network and avoiding downloading other content while updating your device.

• If using a home Wi-Fi, restart your router and cable modem by unplugging the devices and then plugging them back in.
• Make sure your iPhone is not in Low Power Mode and, preferably, connected to power.
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Tap Power Mode.
  4. Tap to turn Low Power Mode on or off.

When you’re updating over the air, keep your iPhone connected to a power source.

Download using cellular data

If you have reliable 5G service and don’t need to worry about how much data you will use for the update, you can update using cell service. To do that:

1. Turn off Wi-Fi by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and toggling the switch next to Wi-Fi.
2. Make sure your iPhone will use its 5G data. Open Settings and tap on Cellular.
3. Tap on Cellular Data Options.
4. Tap on Data Mode and choose Allow More Data on 5G.

3. Update using iTunes, Finder or Apple Devices

If you have access to a computer, this might be the easiest way to complete the update.

Open the Finder on your Mac, or open the Apple Devices app on your PC. If your PC doesn’t have the Apple Devices app, or your Mac is using macOS Mojave or earlier, open iTunes instead.

Mac with macOS Catalina or later

1. Open the Finder window on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later.
2. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
3. Select your iPhone in the left sidebar of the Finder window.
4. Click General, then click Check for Update.
5. Click Download and Update. Continue following the onscreen instructions.
6. If asked, enter your passcode.

Use your Windows device to update software on your iPhone

1. Connect your Apple device to your Windows device.

   You can connect your device using a USB or USB-C cable or a Wi-Fi connection.

2. In the Apple Devices app on your Windows device, select the device in the sidebar.
3. Select General in the sidebar.
4. Select Update.

You may need to first select Check for Update to see if an update is available. If an update is available, the Update button appears.

Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier or PC

1. Open iTunes on your Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier or on your Windows PC.
2. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
3. Click the device button in iTunes toolbar.
4. Click the Summary tab.
5. Click Check for Update.
6. Click Download and Update. Continue by following the onscreen instructions.
7. If asked, enter your passcode.

4. Make room

Make sure you have enough room on your iPhone for the update. You can check how much space is needed by looking at the update in Settings > General > Software Update. The update size will be listed under the iOS version.

To free up storage space on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Apps, then tap App Store.
3. Turn on Offload Unused Apps.

5. Delete the update and try again

There could be something wrong with the update file on your iPhone. To delete the update file from your iPhone:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap General.
3. Tap iPhone Storage.
4. Find the update in the list of apps.
5. Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
6. Go to Settings.
7. Tap General.
8. Tap Software Update and download the latest update.

After you delete the update file, try downloading the update again.
