Several iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max users have said that they could not update their devices to the latest version of iOS and they receive the following error message:
“Unable to verify update. iOS [version] failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet.”
The error message indicates that you can’t reach the update server for verification because of lack of internet access. Users have said that they run into this update problem even when their iPhone appears to be connected to Wi-Fi. Apple lists not being able to reach the update server among the reasons an iPhone might not update wirelessly, or over the air.
This article explains how you can address this issue. Follow these steps until your problem is fixed:
Follow these steps first:
- Update your device again using the same network.
- Restart your iPhone.
- Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
- Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.
- To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.
- If possible, use another Wi-Fi network to try updating your device.
- Please ensure that you’re within range meaning you are not too far away from your Wi-Fi modem/router.
- Restart your router and cable modem by unplugging the devices and then plugging them back in.
- Plug your device into a power outlet using your USB cable and then try again.
- Ensure that Low Power Mode is off. You can check this by going to Settings > Battery > Power Mode.
- If you are using a VPN or proxy connection, disable it, and then try again. Use the app to turn off its features, then see if the issue continues. To change your VPN settings, tap Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
- If the issue happens again after trying to update with multiple networks, you can remove the update (see the next section).
Remove the update and try again
If you are still having issues, try removing and then redownloading the update. Here is how:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap iPhone Storage.
- Find the update in the list of apps.
- Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update and download the latest update.
Reset network settings
Reset your network settings. Please note that doing so will delete all of your network settings. This resets all Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings. If you do not want to do this, you can try the next step (use your computer) before this.
If you want to do this, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings and follow the onscreen instructions.
Use your computer
If you are still having this problem, you can use your computer to update your iPhone 18 Pro. This is called a manual update. This method may let you update your device. Here is how:

- Connect your device to your computer.
- Select your device in the left sidebar of the Finder window.
- Click General, then click Check for Update.

- Connect your device to your computer.
