Several users have reported that they’re receiving an error when trying to update their iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max. It seems that this is one of the most common issues that iOS users face when updating.
You can easily update your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max wirelessly. To install the latest version of iOS, tap Settings > General > Software Update. If you can’t update, there might be many possible reasons. This article explains what you can do to fix if you see the Unable to Install Update error on your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple periodically releases updates for the iPhone. Updates for iOS are released via over-the-air software updates. These releases include bug fixes, additional features, and improvements. Thus we recommend installing the latest available updates.

Before you continue, it is very important that you make a backup. There are basically two ways to do this:
- You can use iCloud. On your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process ends.
- You can also use your computer, Mac or PC: Connect iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max and your computer (Mac or PC) using USB-C cable. Switch to the Finder on your Mac, or open the Apple Devices app on your PC. If your PC doesn’t have the Apple Devices app, or your Mac is using macOS Mojave or earlier, open iTunes instead.
- Select your device and click Back Up Now. On a Mac, click General at the top of the Finder window and select āBack up all of the data on your iPhone to this Macā before you click Back Up Now.
iPhone 18 Pro iOS Update Problem Fixes:
- Restart your iPhone 18 Pro and try again. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.
- If possible, try to update your device using a different Wi-Fi network. From your Home screen, go to Settings, then tap Wi-Fi.
- Make sure that there is enough space to download and install an update. If this is the issue, you may want to make more space by removing content that you do not need or use. To do so, simply go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. You may also want to turn on iCloud Photos. Tap Settings, tap [your name], tap iCloud, then tap Photos. Turn on Sync this iPhone. Select Optimize iPhone Storage to save space on your device. This will let you reduce the size of your Photo library. You may also see several recommendations. You can also use the recommendations to optimize your storage. You may also want to delete music, apps, photos, or videos.
- Try again by removing and downloading the iOS update. Here is how:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap iPhone Storage.
- Find the update in the list of apps.
- Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update and download the latest update.
- You can also try to update with Apple Devices app, or iTunes or Finder (Catalina or later) to update your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max manually using your computer. Here is how:
- Open the Finder on your Mac, or open the Apple Devices app on your PC. If your PC doesn’t have the Apple Devices app, or your Mac is using macOS Mojave or earlier, open iTunes instead.
- Plug your device into your computer.
- Locate your device on your computer. You may need to trust your device to continue.
- Click Check for Update.
- Click Download and Update.
- Force restart your device: Here is how you can force restart your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max:
- Press and quickly release the volume up button.
- Press and quickly release the volume down button.
- Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo (this might take longer than 10 seconds).
