Your iPad display keeps flickering and you don’t know what to do. The screen flashes, changes colors, or blacks out, but you’re not sure why. An iPad with a glitching screen can be a real hassle. In this article, I’ll show you what to do to fix an iPad screen glitch.
Fix 1: Turn off Auto-Brightness
I had success fixing my flickering iPad screen by turning off Auto-Brightness, so i recommend that you give it a try first.
Here’s how to turn off Auto-Brightness:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Tap Display & Text Size.
- Turn off the switch next to Auto-Brightness!
Fix 2: Check your visual settings
Blurred backgrounds on your iPad can make text hard to read and even give the screen the appearance of flickering as it navigates between apps and your background. Adjusting this feature can go a long way toward fixing your iPad flickering issue.
Here’s what to do:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Tap Display & Text Size.
- Turn off the switch next to Reduce Transparency!
Fix 3: Close the problematic app
If your iPad screen only flickers when you use a certain app, there’s probably a problem with that app, not your iPad. First, I recommend closing the app to see if we can fix a minor software problem.
Here’s how to close an app on your iPad:
- If your iPad has a Home button, double-press it to bring up the app switcher. If your iPad doesn’t have a Home button, swipe up from the very bottom to the center of the screen to reveal the app switcher.
- Once the app switcher is open, use one finger to swipe the problematic app up and off the top of the screen. You’ll know the app is closed when it no longer appears in the app switcher.
Now that you’ve closed the problematic app, tap on its icon on the Home screen to see if it is working without issues. If your iPad screen still flickers when you open the app, you may have to delete the app and reinstall it or find an alternative.
Here’s how to delete an iPad app:
- Press and hold on the icon of the app you want to delete.
- Tap Remove App.
- Tap Delete App.
- Tap Delete to confirm your decision!
Fix 4: hard reset your iPad
Sometimes iPad software crashes, which can cause the screen to flicker. A hard reset can clear out most bugs your device is running into—and that includes a glitching iPad screen.
Here’s how to hard reset your iPad:
- If your iPad has a Home button, simultaneously press and hold the power button and Home button until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears.
- If your iPad doesn’t have a Home button, quickly press and release the volume up button, then quickly press and release the volume down button, then press and hold the Top button until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears.
Fix 5: Update your software
It’s possible an iPadOS bug is causing the screen to flicker. Outdated iPadOS can cause a variety of software issues on your iPad, so it’s important to update when you can.
Here’s how to check for updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select General.
- Tap Software Update.
- Tap Update Now if a new iPadOS update is available.
Fix 6: Repair or replace your screen
Still having issues with a flickering iPad screen? It’s possible an internal connector has been dislodged or damaged.
When dealing with such small, intricate internal iPad components, we recommend taking your iPad to an Apple store or an Apple authorized service center to have it checked by an expert. If you have an AppleCare+ protection plan, set up an appointment at your local Apple Store’s Genius Bar and see what they can do for you.
