To use the FaceTime app or phone app, you’ll need to be connected to the internet (with Wi-Fi, cellular data, or a broadband internet connection), with a device that supports the app, like an iPhone 6 or later, or an iPad Pro.

- Open the FaceTime app.
- Tap New FaceTime and type the person’s phone number or email address. Tap the number or address, then tap the Audio button or the FaceTime button.
If you have the person’s phone number or email address saved in your Contacts, you can start typing their name and tap the name when it appears. Then tap the Audio button or the FaceTime button.
How to use the Phone app
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the Contacts tab.
- Tap on the name of the person you want to call. This will take you into that person’s entry in Contacts.
If the person is using FaceTime, you should see a FaceTime option under that person’s name. - Click or tap on FaceTime.
- If you want an audio-only call, click or tap on the Audio Call button. If you want to use video, click or tap on the Video Call button.
How to FaceTime with someone who has an Android
In FaceTime, you can create a link to a FaceTime call and send the link to a someone who has an Android smartphone or tablet. They can then use the link to join you in one-to-one and Group FaceTime calls from their browser—no login is necessary. (They need the latest version of either Chrome or Edge.
Here’s how to initiate a FaceTime call as an iOS user:
- Open the FaceTime app on your iPhone.
- Tap Create Link near the top of the screen.
- Choose an option for sending the link (Mail, Messages, and so on).
Here’s how to join a FaceTime call on Android:
- If you receive a link to a FaceTime call, open the link.
- Enter your name, then select Continue. You might need to allow FaceTime to use your microphone and camera.
- Select Join. Then wait for the call’s host to let you in.
- Select Leave to leave the call.

Screen sharing lets everyone in a FaceTime call look at photos, browse the web, or help each other out.
Can you screen share on FaceTime with an Android?
No, you cannot screen share on FaceTime with an Android device. Here’s what everyone needs:

How to screen share using FaceTime on an iPhone or iPad
Here’s how to share your screen in FaceTime on your iPhone or iPad:
- Start a FaceTime call on your iPhone or iPad.
- During a FaceTime call, tap the screen to show the FaceTime controls (if they aren’t visible), then tap the Share Content button.
- Tap Share My Screen.
- A countdown from 3 to 1 appears, then other participants can view your screen. (If a Join Screen Sharing notification appears on a participant’s screen, they may need to tap Open to start viewing your screen.)
Everyone can see what’s on your screen until you stop sharing, but they can’t control anything on your device. If you get any notifications while sharing your screen, others won’t be able to see them.
When you’re sharing your screen, others won’t be able to see content that requires a subscription, a free trial, or a purchase or rental to view.
How to take over screen sharing on FaceTime
If someone on the FaceTime call wants to take over screen sharing, here’s what they should do:
- During a FaceTime call, tap the Share Content button.
- Tap Share My Screen.
- Tap Replace Existing.
End a screen sharing session on FaceTime
At the top of the FaceTime call, tap the Share Content button again to stop sharing your screen.
Ending a FaceTime call also ends screen sharing.
