Though you might not use the flashlight on your iPhone every day, it’s indispensable when you need it. If you don’t know all the ways to toggle the flashlight on your iPhone, we’re here to help.
There are a few ways you can turn your iPhone’s flashlight on or off:
- You can use Control Center.
- You can use LockScreen.
- You can ask Siri.
- You can use BackTap.
- On iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models, you can use the Action button.
- On iPhone models running iOS 18, you can use Vocal Shortcuts.
Use Control Center to turn the flashlight off or on
- Swipe down from the upper-right corner to open Control Center on your iPhone. On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center.
- Tap the Flashlight button.
- To turn off the flashlight, tap the Flashlight button again.
Turn on the flashlight from the Lock screen
Another quick way to turn on flashlight on iPhone is by long-pressing the Flashlight icon on the lock screen.
On your iPhone Lock Screen, press and hold the Flashlight button in the bottom-left corner.
Ask Siri to Turn Flashlight on or off
You can quickly turn iPhone Flashlight on and off by by asking Siri. Here are a few examples of how you can use Siri to turn on your flashlight:
- "Hey Siri, turn on my flashlight."
- "Hey Siri, will you turn on my flashlight?"
- "Hey Siri, turn off my flashlight."
Use Back Tap to turn the flashlight on or off
Back Tap is an iOS feature that lets you interact with your device without touching the screen. You can activate it by tapping anywhere on the back of your phone. One way to set up Back Tap is to map Double Tap or Triple Tap to the Flashlight. Here’s how to configure Back Tap to turn Flashlight on or off on your iPhone:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Touch.
- Tap Back Tap.
- Choose either Double Tap or Triple Tap.
- Select Flashlight.
- Depending on the gesture you choose, double or tripple tap the back of your iPhone to turn Flashlight on or off.
Use the Action button to turn the flashlight on or off
The Action Button can be customized to do many different things—including turning Flashlight on and off. Here’s how to configure the Action Button to turn Flashlight on and off:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Action Button.
- Swipe left or right until you’ve selected the Flashlight.
- Press and hold the Action button to turn the flashlight on or off.
The Action Button is the fastest way to turn Flashlight on or off on an iPhone, but it’s only available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Use Vocal Shortcuts to turn the flashlight on or off
With Vocal Shortcuts in iOS 18, you can teach iPhone to turn Flashlight on or off when you speak a word or phrase. Here’s how to set up Vocal Shortcuts to turn Flashlight on or off on an iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Vocal Shortcuts.
- Tap Set Up, then tap Continue.
- Choose Flashlight.
- Enter the phrase you’ll say when you want iPhone to turn Flashlight on or off, then follow the onscreen instructions to repeat the word or phrase out loud so that iPhone can recognize it.
- After you set up Vocal Shortcuts, just say the word or phrase for the shortcuts you’ve created to turn the flashlight on or off.
Change the brightness of the flashlight
- On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the top-right corner to launch Control Center. Or on an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Center.
- Press and hold the Flashlight button.
- Drag the slider up or down.
Change the size of your flashlight beam with Dynamic Island in iOS 18
- Turn on your flashlight.
- Tap the Dynamic Island.
- Touch and hold the Light icon, then drag it to change the width and length of your flashlight beam.
The Dynamic Island is available on iPhone 14 Pro and later Pro models.
