Is your iPhone 16 Pro not connecting to Wi-Fi? Every time you try to visit a website, it won’t load. In this guide, I’ll explain why your iPhone 16 Pro won’t connect to Wi-Fi and show you how to fix the issue for good!
In theory, wireless connections and cellular networks should live happily in harmony on your iPhone 16 Pro. Your device uses automatic switching technology to pop you on known Wi-Fi networks and send you back to cellular when you’re out of range, and it works great… most of the time.
But let’s be honest: Wireless networks — especially those with interstitial signup sheets — can be finicky. If your iPhone 16 Pro can’t connect to Wi-Fi, it may prevent you from getting some important work done or just enjoying your technology as you want. Thankfully, if your iPhone 16 Pro is not connecting to Wi-Fi, there are some troubleshooting steps you can do to try and solve the problem.
Note: These troubleshooting steps also apply to iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max that won’t connect to Wi-Fi.
How to troubleshoot if your iPhone 16 Pro won’t connect to Wi-Fi
Make sure that your router is on and that you’re within range
If you’re too far from your Wi-Fi router, your iPhone 16 Pro can’t get a signal, so make sure that you’re within range.
Double Check the Wi-Fi Password
To connect to most Wi-Fi routers, you’ll need a password. This password is set by the owner of the router or access point. If there’s even a one-character typo in the password, you won’t be able to connect.
So make sure you have the right Wi-Fi password: Ask for it again, if necessary, to double check, or write it down twice on a piece of paper. Then re-enter it in the Wi-Fi settings and see if that helps. If not, move ahead to another step.
See If the Connection Requires a Wi-Fi Login Page
Some businesses (such as hotels, restaurants, airlines, and more) provide an “open” Wi-Fi network that restricts access using a Wi-Fi login page or portal in a web browser. These login pages make you sign in with a special username and password provided by the business.
If you’ve connected to a Wi-Fi access point in the settings on your iPhone but aren’t seeing any internet access, try opening your browser on your iPhone 16 and visiting any website. If the business uses a login page, you’ll usually be automatically redirected to the login page where you can enter the credentials properly.
Toggle your Wi-Fi off and on again
Yes, this is a pretty straightforward troubleshoot, but you’ll be surprised how often turning Wi-Fi off and then back on again will troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone 16 Pro.
- Tap on Wi-Fi.
- Tap the Wi-Fi On/Off Switch twice. Once to turn it off and another time to turn it back on.
Make sure you are connected to the right network
If you’re somewhere with multiple Wi-Fi networks that your iPhone could connect to — like in a coffee shop or at a business — your iPhone 16 Pro will pick the first one that pops up in the list, which is less than ideal. Head into your Wi-Fi settings and make sure you’re connected to the correct network.
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone 16 Pro.
- Tap on Wi-Fi.
- Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
Make sure you are on the latest version of iOS
Apple’s operating system updates often include bug fixes that can help resolve your iPhone 16 Pro Wi-Fi connectivity problems. Check to see if there’s an update you can install.
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone 16 Pro.
- Tap on General.
- Tap on Software Update.
- If there’s an update available, tap Update Now.
Check the router
If your iPhone 16 Pro can’t connect to a specific Wi-Fi network, it’s time to check out what’s going on under that network’s hood. If the Wi-Fi network is yours, make sure that your router is connected to the modem and turned on. Restart your router by unplugging the equipment from the power outlet and then plugging it back in.
If you’re having problems with a Wi-Fi network that isn’t yours, check with the proprietor or IT administrator — are other people having this problem? Can the network be rebooted? If not, you may be out of luck.
Reboot your iPhone
If you still can’t connect to your network or get online, it’s time to reboot your iPhone. Here’s how:
- Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
- Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your phone to turn off completely.
- To turn your phone back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.
Disable VPN
One of the most common reasons iPhone 16 Pro won’t connect to WiFi is VPN. If you have enabled it via the Settings app or a VPN app, then try to disable it to see if it resolves the issue. You can disable VPN via the Settings app and navigate to the VPN settings to disable the Status toggle from Connected to Not Connected. If you are not able to disable it, then launch the VPN app to disable VPN temporarily to figure out if it resolves the WiFi connection problem on your iPhone 16 Pro.
Forget Wi-Fi Network and Rejoin
If you’re not able to connect to a Wi-Fi Network and being prompted that the password you’ve entered is incorrect despite entering the correct password, then try to forget the Wi-Fi network and join the network again.
To forget the Wi-Fi network, tap on the Wi-Fi network from the list under Settings > Wi-Fi. Then tap on Forget This Network. You will be prompted with a popup message asking you if you want to forget Wi-Fi Network. Tap Forget to forget the network.
Now go back to Settings > Wi-Fi, select the network again, if asked, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network.
Even if you enter the correct password, you might see an “unable to join the network” message or an “incorrect password” message. Restart your iPhone and router, then try to enter your password again.
Check for issues with your Wi-Fi network
If iOS detects an issue with your Wi-Fi connection, you might see a Wi-Fi recommendation under the name of the Wi-Fi network that you’re connected to. For example, you might see the alert “No Internet Connection.” To get more information, tap the Wi-Fi network.
Reset your network settings
This step resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Tap on General.
- Scroll down and tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Tap on Reset.
- Tap Reset Network Settings.
- Type in your Passcode if prompted.
- Tap on Reset Network Settings to confirm.
Once this is complete, you’ll have to reconnect to every Wi-Fi and Bluetooth device you own or use, but if your Wi-Fi starts working again, then it will all be worth it.
Restore your iPhone 16 Pro
If you’ve tried all of the above steps to no avail, it might be time to consider restoring your iPhone. It’s not my first recommendation, but if your Wi-Fi is totally borked, you might not have another option at this point.
