Many users have reported black screen problems.

Users specifically say that their iPhone becomes unresponsive and shows a black screen with a spinning circle.

If your iPhone 18 Pro experiences a black screen with the spinning wheel that does not go away after the recent iOS update, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix.

  • Before you do anything, if you can, updating your iPhone 18 Pro to the latest version of iOS may fix this problem because Apple continuously releases new versions to address various bugs. You can do this wirelessly by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Force Restart

  1. Make sure that nothing is connected to your iPhone 18 Pro. Then:

    • Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Press and hold the side button. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

Recovery Assistant

If you need to manually start Recovery Assistant:

  1. Connect your device to a computer or power source.
  2. Power the device off.
  3. Press and hold the side button until you see the connect to computer screen, then release the side button.
  4. Double press the side button.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Review the information and choose to send or not send data to Apple.

The recovery process requires a Wi-Fi connection. After the recovery process completes, restart your device. If the startup issue continues, make sure your device is on the latest version of iOS. If your device is on the latest version of iOS, use recovery mode to restore your iPhone.

Recovery Mode

If force restart does not work (your iPhone still does not respond), try this. Following these steps will put your device into recovery mode that may fix your issue.

  1. Try to back up your device. Some users stated that this black screen goes away after 5-10 seconds. If your problem is like that, back up your device via iCloud by going to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.
  2. Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  3. Open the Finder on your Mac, or open the Apple Devices app on your PC.
  4. Keep your device connected and wait until the “Connect to computer” screen appears.
  5. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the side button until you see the “Connect to computer” screen.
  6. Choose Restore when the Update or Restore options appear. Restore reinstalls iOS and erases all your data. If you haven’t tried updating yet, try updating first.
