Last night I used my iPhone 18 Pro then placed it on my desk. After a few minutes, I wanted to use my phone some more. But I noticed that my device’s screen was black and unresponsive even though the phone looked like it was on and working. It was ringing when I received calls.

This article explains how to troubleshoot black screen problems.

iPhone may experience black screen issues for various reasons. For instance, you may experience this when a system fault occurs. Or it could be a hardware problem. But you may solve it quickly. Here is how:

iPhone Black Screen Problem

  1. Make sure that your device battery is not dead. As stated above, my issue was not this because my phone was still working indicating my battery was not completely drained. If your phone looks completely dead, the first thing you should do is to charge your iPhone 18 Pro by plugging in your device and waiting a few minutes. If nothing happens and if you do not see the charging screen, check your cables etc.
  2. The second thing to do is to force restart your device. Here is how. Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Press and hold the side button. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

  3. Try Recovery Assistant. Connect your device to a computer or power source. Power the device off. Press and hold the side button until you see the connect to computer screen, then release the side button. Double press the side button. Click Continue. If the issue continues, use recovery mode: connect your device to your computer with a USB cable. Open the Finder on your Mac, or open the Apple Devices app on your PC. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the side button until you see the “Connect to computer” screen. You will then see two options: Restore and Update. Click Update so that your computer can reinstall iOS. Do not worry, this will not remove your data.
  4. If nothing helps, contact Apple.
