The first time you set up Apple TV 4K, you choose which display language and region format to use, but you can change this later in Settings. Your primary language is the language used throughout Apple TV 4K and in apps that support it.

You can also add multiple languages, so you can switch between them when a keyboard appears onscreen, and keyboards appear in your preferred language order. Siri and dictation may not be available in every language, though.

Add and edit preferred languages

Add multiple languages, and you can switch between them whenever a keyboard appears onscreen. Keyboards show up in your preferred language order.

  1. Go to Settings on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Go to General > Apple TV Languages and then do any of the following:
    • Add a preferred language: Select Add Language and then choose a language from the list. Select Keep [current language] to add the language to your preferred languages list without changing the primary language, or select Use [new language] to make it your primary language.
    • Change the preferred language order: Select Edit, then select the Move button next to a language in the list and swipe up or down on the clickpad or touch surface on your remote to move the language to a new position. Press the clickpad center or touch surface to confirm the new position and then select Done.
    • Remove a language: Select Edit. Then select the Trash button next to the language you want to remove and select Done.

To switch to the next language in your list while you’re using the onscreen keyboard, select the Language button.

Change your primary language

The language used throughout Apple TV 4K, and in all apps that support it, depends on your primary language.

  1. Go to Settings on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Go to General > Apple TV Languages. Do either of the following:
    • Set one of your preferred languages as the primary language: Select Edit, select the Move button next to a language in the list, swipe up on the clickpad or touch surface on your remote to move the language to the top of the list, and select Done.
    • Add a new language and set it as the primary language: Select Add Language and choose a language from the list. Select Use [new language].

Note: Siri and dictation may or may not be available, depending on the language you select.

Change your region

  1. Go to Settings on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Go to General > Region.
  3. Select a region. Follow the onscreen instructions to set language and display format preferences.

Change your keyboard layout

  1. Go to Settings on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Go to General > Keyboard Layout and select one of the following:
    • Auto: Displays the Linear keyboard for touch-enabled remotes and displays the Grid keyboard for other remotes.
    • Linear: Displays keys in a line.
    • Grid: Displays keys in a grid.

Turn dictation on or off

  1. Go to Settings on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Go to General and select Dictation to turn it on or off.

Not all features and content are available in all countries or regions or on all Apple TV hardware models.
