How to fix iPhone keeps restarting after iOS 27 update
Below, i’ll take you through the steps I used to fix the iOS 27 reboot loop on my iPhone. Please note that the steps are listed in order, so start with the first one, and continue until your problem is resolved:
1. Force restart your iPhone
The easiest thing to try when your iPhone keeps restarting after iOS 27 update is to do a force restart. It’s a great way to clear up any minor bugs behind this problem, plus it doesn’t delete your data. Here is how you can force restart your iPhone:
- Press and quickly release the volume up button.
- Press and quickly release the volume down button.
- Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. And release the button and your iPhone will restart.
2. Check for iOS update
Like Windows on a PC or macOS on a Mac, iOS is your iPhone’s operating system. iOS updates always contain lots of fixes for software bugs and other problems. Sometimes, a software update fixes the problem that’s causing your iPhone to keep restarting or enter a restart loop. Here is how:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update.
And if there is an update available, follow the onscreen instructions.
3. Check for app updates.
It’s very rare for an app to cause an iPhone to restart or turn on and off repeatedly. For the most part, the software on your iPhone is shielded from problem apps. That being said, there are approximately 2.4 million apps in the App Store and they’re not all perfect.
If you installed an app just before your iPhone entered a restart loop, update that app and see if the problem resolves itself. Here is how:
- Open the App Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Tap App Updates.
- Tap Update next to the problematic app. You can also tap Update All to update all apps at a go.
If the problem persists, here’s what you can do:
- Delete an app that you think may be causing the problem.
- Test your iPhone. Still having the issue?
- If the restarting or crashing issue is not happening anymore, then the app you removed might have been causing the problem. If this is the case, do not install it again, or at least wait until its developer updates the app. You may also want to contact its developer for further help.
4. Check Battery health
As your battery gets old, it may cause your iPhone to start to shut down unexpectedly.
The level of your iPhone’s battery health may cause this problem. On your iPhone go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health or Battery Health & Charging. This page will tell if your battery requires service. So you will know if you need a new battery.
Please check this website for further help. Your battery can be replaced if your iPhone is still covered by warranty or AppleCare. Apple charges anywhere from $70 to $100 for an out-of-warranty replacement battery.
5. Check storage and free up space
Your iPhone requires enough storage to operate properly. Low storage or no available storage is can be a cause of the iPhone restarting randomly after iOS 27 update. First, check your storage to find out what’s taking up the most space on your iPhone. Then you may want to delete some apps or photos etc to make storage space available.
Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Check the available storage space. As we’ve mentioned above, your iPhone requires enough storage to run properly. And the lack of free storage space will reduce your device performance. You may want to delete some apps you do not use or need. You can also offload an app. This means that offloading an app will remove the app but keeps its document and data. So you can reinstall it any time later and you will not lose data. Just go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage scroll down and tap on any app you want to remove or offload then tap Offload App or Delete App. This will save you some space (in my case, nearly 6GB.) You can also do some spring cleaning and delete videos and songs you don’t want anymore, and move photos to other storage devices. For best performance, try to maintain at least 1GB of free space on your iPhone.
6. Make sure your iPhone is not overheating
Overheating can cause iPhone to restart randomly. This is not common. If your iPhone overheats, you should try to cool it down. Furthermore, your iPhone should not get excessively hot. If your iPhone gets very hot, it is a sign of faulty device, faulty hardware, or software. Your best option is to contact Apple Support (direct link) and get it repaired or replaced by reserving a Genius Bar appointment.
7. Reset your iPhone to factory settings and restore
If your iPhone still keeps restarting, try to reset all settings. Please note that this will remove all data from your phone. We strongly recommend backing up your iPhone before trying these steps. You can use iCloud or your computer.
- Use iCloud: Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.
- Use your Mac: Connect your iPhone to your Mac using your USB cable. Open iTunes (macOS Mojave or earlier) or Finder (macOS Catalina or later), click General and then click “Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac” then follow the onscreen instructions.
- Use your PC: Connect your iPhone to your computer with your USB cable. Open iTunes and go to Summary and Back Up Now.
After backing up, it is time to erase your iPhone. This will wipe everything. Here is how:
- On your iPhone, head to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
- Enter your password.
- Then follow the onscreen instructions. This process may take a few minutes.
Restore:
- After erasing, you will see a Hello screen.
- Simply follow the onscreen instructions.
- When you reach the Apps & Data screen, you will see two options “Restore from iCloud Backup” and “Restore from Mac or PC”, select one and tap Continue. If you select the “Restore from Mac or PC option, you will need to connect your device to your computer with your USB cable.
