Your Apple ID is probably linked to a payment method. This will let you buy apps from the App Store, use Apple subscriptions like iCloud and Apple Music, or buy other media from Apple using your Apple ID. You can use most credit and debit cards with your Apple ID to make purchases from the App Store or iTunes Store. More specifically, you can use Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or Paypal.
Sometimes you may need to remove, update or change your Apple payment method. For example, if the payment information associated with your Apple ID is out of date or mistaken, you’ll want to correct it. This can be done on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro, Mac, or Windows PC.
Once you change or edit your payment method, it will be automatically updated for all Apple services. Read on to learn how to change, update or remove Apple ID payment method.

Update your payment method on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro
You can use your iPhone, iPad or Apple Vision Pro to update your payment method. Here is how:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Tap your Apple ID name at the top.
- Tap on Payment & Shipping. If asked, sign in with your Apple ID.
- If you need to update the billing information of an existing card, tap the payment method, then tap Edit.
- Enter your new billing information, then tap Done in the top-right corner.
If there’s an issue, change your payment method
- Launch the Settings app.
- Tap your Apple ID name at the top.
- Tap on Payment & Shipping. If asked, sign in with your Apple ID.
- Tap Add Payment Method, enter the new payment method, then tap Done in the top-right.
- Tap Edit.
- Tap the red delete button to the left of the old payment method, and then tap “Remove” to confirm your choice.
If you want, you can then re-add the old payment method with updated billing information.

Update your payment method on your Mac
Here is how you can change or update your payment methods linked to your Apple ID on your Mac:
- Launch the App Store app.
- Click your name in the bottom left corner. If your name doesn’t appear, click the Sign In button, sign in with your Apple ID, then click your name.
- Click on Account Settings. If asked, sign in with your Apple ID.
- Under Apple ID Summary, click on Manage Payments.
- If you need to update the billing information of an existing card, click Edit next to the payment method.
- Enter your new billing information, then click Done in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
If there’s an issue, change your payment method
- Launch the App Store app.
- Click your name in the bottom left corner. If your name doesn’t appear, click the Sign In button, sign in with your Apple ID, then click your name.
- Click on Account Settings. If asked, sign in with your Apple ID.

Update your payment method on your Windows PC
Here is how you can change or update your payment methods linked to your Apple ID using your Windows PC:
- Launch the Apple Music app or Apple TV app on your Windows PC.
- Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then click View My Account. If asked, sign in with your Apple ID. (If you have iTunes for Windows, use the menu bar to select Account > View My Account.)
- Click Manage Payments next to Payment Information.
- If you need to update the billing information of an existing card, click Edit next to the payment method.
- Enter your new billing information, then click Done to finish.
If there’s an issue, change your payment method
- Launch the Apple Music app or Apple TV app on your Windows PC.
- Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then click View My Account. If ask, sign in with your Apple ID. (If you have iTunes for Windows, use the menu bar to select Account > View My Account.)
- Click Manage Payments next to Payment Information.
- Click Add Payment, then enter the new payment method. Click Done.
- Click Edit next to the old payment method, then click Remove Payment Method.
If you want, you can then re-add the old payment method with updated billing information.
You Can’t Always Delete Apple Payment Method
If you only have one payment method on your iPhone, you must not match any of the following circumstances. If you do, you can’t remove your payment method.
- You have an active subscription, including an iCloud subscription.
- You’re the family organizer in a Family Sharing group.
- You have an unpaid balance in your account.
