This happened to me too. While I was washing my car, I dropped my iPhone 18 Pro in water. The phone stayed in the water for about 10 minutes before I realize my phone was completely submerged. Although this was a pretty horrible feeling, fortunately, I was able to avoid permanent damage.

The good news is that iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are splash, water, and dust resistant, with a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes). Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions. Resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear.

It seems that a lot of users are suffering from the ‘dropped in the toilet’ issue. This is likely because a lot of users also like to use their phones in the bathroom. Did you accidentally get your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max wet? If this happens to you too, then this article is for you.

In this article, we explain what you should do if you get your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max wet.

Things to do when your iPhone 18 Pro is wet

Please do these steps in order. Also note that timing is everything:

1. The first thing you do is not to panic. Obviously, take it out as soon as humanly possible. You should remove your iPhone from the water as quickly as possible.

2. Unplug all cables or accessories, if anything is plugged in. Do not plug in anything until your iPhone is fully dry.

3. Turn off your iPhone immediately (do not try to turn on to see if it is working before it is fully dry): Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.

You can also turn off your device by going to Settings > General > Shut Down.

4. Remove its case if your phone has a protective case.

5. If a liquid other than water splashes on your iPhone (seawater, for example), rinse the affected area with tap water.

6. Tap your iPhone gently against your hand with the USB-C connector facing down to remove excess liquid.

7. Wipe your iPhone off. Wipe your iPhone off with a soft, lint-free cloth—for example, a lens cloth.

8. Wait. Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow. Be patient and just wait. Placing your iPhone in front of a fan blowing cool air directly into the USB-C connector might help the drying process.

Things not to do

Please do not these as they may cause permanent damage.

  • Don’t dry your iPhone using an external heat source, such as a hair dryer or an oven (or a microwave oven).
  • Don’t insert a foreign object, such as a cotton swab or a paper towel, into the USB-C connector.
  • Do not charge your iPhone until it is completely dry. Allow at least 5 hours before charging with a USB-C cable or connecting an accessory. For wireless charging, make sure that your iPhone is dry before you place it on a compatible wireless charging mat.

Also, note that liquid damage is not covered under warranty, but you might have rights under consumer law.
