Does your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max keep restarting before you can do anything with it? It appears that this problem usually occurs at random intervals without warning. You may start experiencing this problem after updating your iOS system.

When an unexpected restart happens, you could lose valuable data and unsaved documents.

It is very essential to know what causes your iPhone 18 Pro to keep restarting. Because if you know this then you can solve the problem now and prevent future occurrences.

Does your iPhone start itself out of nowhere? This article explains what you can do when your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max reboots itself over and over again. Please note that the steps are listed in order. After each step, test to see if you have fixed your problem.

Backup

Before you do anything, try to back up your iPhone. If your problem is serious, this could be the last chance to back up your data. You can do this using iCloud and your computer.

iCloud:

On your iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup. Then tap Back Up Now to trigger a manual backup.

Computer:

Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC with a USB cable, then open the right app for your computer:

  • Mac with macOS Catalina or later: open Finder.
  • Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier: open iTunes.
  • PC: open the Apple Devices app, or iTunes if your PC does not have it.

Locate your iPhone in that app, then follow the onscreen instructions to back it up.

Apple’s support documents explain the backup process in more detail.

Storage

Your iPhone needs free space to work normally. Apple says that to avoid slowdowns, you should maintain at least 1 GB of free space. If your available storage is very low, this may slow your iPhone down and contribute to this problem.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. This page may contain a list of recommendations that you may want to follow. You will also see a list of your installed apps and how much space they use. If you do not have much storage left, you may want to delete some apps, photos, etc to free up space on your device.

Update everything

First, update your device’s iOS software and then update all of the apps installed.

Update your iPhone

On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If there is an update available, follow the onscreen instructions to update your device.

Update your apps

One (or more) of your apps may cause your iPhone 18 Pro to crash. What you may want to do is to update all of your apps to the latest version.

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap the My Account button or your photo at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap App Updates, then tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.

Force restart

Force restart your iPhone 18 Pro to fix your problem.

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo (this might take longer than 10 seconds).

If your iPhone doesn’t turn on, charge your iPhone for one hour and then try again.

Check your battery

Since your iPhone 18 Pro is new, the battery is not likely to cause this type of performance issue. However, check your iPhone’s battery health to be sure. On your device, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health.

If you see that Maximum Capacity is over 80 percent and Peak Performance Capability is saying ā€œYour battery is currently supporting normal peak performance.ā€ then you are ok.

If not, your battery may need to be replaced. If you see Service next to Battery Health, consider replacing your battery to restore full performance and capacity. You may want to make a Genius Bar reservation or take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Reset all settings

If you are still experiencing this constant rebooting problem, reset all settings to see if that can resolve your problem. Please note that doing so will restore all of your customized settings (e.g., display, sound, Wi-Fi, etc) to the factory settings. However, please also note that your personal data (apps, photos, contacts, etc) will remain the same.

On your device, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. Tap Reset All Settings. Enter your passcode if asked and follow the onscreen instructions.

Wipe and Restore

This is the last resort. Note that this option is time-consuming. This involves three steps:

  1. Backup. Although you can back up with iCloud, for this to work properly, we recommend you back up with your computer. See the above backup section.
  2. Erase your iPhone. On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone and then tap Erase All Content and Settings. And follow the onscreen instructions.
  3. Restore from your backup. Now you can restore from your computer backup.

If you are still having issues, it is time to contact Apple Support. You can start chatting with an Apple support team member now.
