You probably don’t think much about the process of charging your phone; just plug in the cable and walk away. That is, until the day your iPhone doesn’t charge when you plug it in, at which point you could find yourself tearing your hair out trying to make it work.

Thankfully, you don’t have to rush to an Apple Store when your iPhone 12 Pro stops charging because there’s a high possibility you can fix it yourself at home. In most cases, the solution is pretty simple. So if your iPhone 12 Pro won’t charge, try out these troubleshooting steps to fix the problem.

How to fix iPhone 12 Pro Not Charging Issue

If you find your iPhone 12 Pro not charging, here are seven potential fixes you can try yourself.

1. Try a different power outlet

An iPhone 12 Pro not charging could be due to many reasons, but the power outlet is one of the first things to check. It could be switched off, or you could have blown a circuit.

Plug something else into the same outlet you’re trying to charge your phone with and see if it works. Sometimes outlets go bad, or a section of your home might have electric problems. Additionally, some power sources can be weak. If you find issues with your outlet, try other outlets in the house.

Those trying to charge using a USB port in a computer or power strip might not be getting the juice the iPhone 12 Pro needs to charge correctly. Move to a regular outlet and see if this gets rid of your charging woes.

2. Check your iPhone’s charging cable

2-metre USB 2.0 cable connects your iPhone, iPad or iPod with Lightning connector to your computer’s USB-A port for syncing and charging.

Charger cables go through a lot. They’re rolled, unrolled, bent, frayed, shoved into bags and pockets. It’s easy for them to become worn over time and, eventually, break entirely.

Inspect your charging cable thoroughly and look for any fraying or damage to the wire. Also, look at both ends, ensuring that nothing is stuck inside, and nothing is bent out of shape. Also, try to charge another Apple device with it and see if it works. If it does, the issue might be your iPhone 12 Pro. You can also try using another cable to see if it will charge your iPhone 12 Pro.

If you find out a damaged cable is the issue, throw it away and get a new one.

3. Test your iPhone’s power adapter

Of course, the wall charger is just as important as the cable. Look at the charging adapter and make sure the cable is plugged totally into the port. If that’s not the issue, next inspect it and make sure nothing is stuck inside and that none of the pieces are bent.

If you can’t see anything wrong with it, either test your charge with a different adapter or, if you don’t have a spare, plug your cable into your computer. If your iPhone begins charging, then the adapter was to blame.

4. Check your iPhones Charging port

If your iPhone 12 Pro isn’t charging the way it usually does, your next stop should be to inspect the Lightning port. This is a lot more common than you might think. After all, we spend a lot of time jamming the phone port-end first into pockets, bags, and other places filled with dust, debris, and lint.

Look carefully, and if you see anything, carefully remove it gently with a toothpick or any other non-metallic, pointed object that will fit in the port. If you have a can of compressed air, briefly blast the port with that as well.

Try to charge your phone again. If it still doesn’t work, move on to the next troubleshooting step.

5. Try restarting your iPhone

Often, the reason your iPhone 12 Pro won’t charge when it’s plugged in because there’s been a connection hiccup. To rule out a temporary glitch like this, try turning your phone off and on again. If your phone still has enough battery life, restart the phone and then try to charge it again. If your phone battery is very, very low under 5% or already complete dead, don’t bother with this step.

To restart your iPhone 12 Pro, hold down the side button and either the volume until the Power off slider appears. Then drag the slider.

6. Don’t charge your iPhone wirelessly

If you are charging your iPhone 12 Pro using a wireless charger, let’s simplify our troubleshooting by eliminating that as a problem right away.

Take off the phone from its wireless charging case, if you’re using one, and plug the phone into a power source with a Lightning cable. Again, check to see if it’s charging. If it is, congratulations you solved the problem. There’s some sort of problem with the phone’s wireless charging solution.

You might need to take your phone to an Apple store for service (or replace your wireless charging case) but in the meantime, you can keep the phone charged the old-fashioned way, with wires.

7. Take your iPhone in for service

If none of these troubleshooting steps fixed your iPhone 12 Pro charging issues, it’s pretty likely that there’s something wrong with the phone itself. You should contact Apple support or go to an Apple store for service.
