Sometimes you may not be able to find the voicemail icon in the Phone app. If you cannot see the Voicemail icon in the Phone app, you won’t be able to check your voicemail. The Voicemail icon is supposed to appear at the bottom-right of the screen in the Phone app on your iPhone. Close the Phone app, then reopen it again:
From our experiences, we know that sometimes the Phone app glitch may cause this issue. You may be experiencing this. This is an easy fix. The steps below describe closing the phone app and opening it again:
- iPhone X and later: Go to the Home screen and swipe up and find the Phone app (swipe left or right) and then swipe up on the app to close it. Now reopen the Phone app and check if Voicemail icon is present.
- iPhone 8 and earlier: Double-press the Home button and find Phone. Swipe up on it to close it. Now reopen the Phone app and check if Voicemail icon is present.
Restart your iPhone
This is easy and fixes the most common issues. You can shut down your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Shut Down, and then after your iPhone has fully powered off, press and hold the Power button (on the top or side of your phone) until the Apple logo appears. After restarting, open the Phone app and check if the voicemail icon has reappeared.
Call your number
You can check your voicemail messages by calling your number from your iPhone. You may be asked to enter your voicemail password. If you do not know it, you can change it by following these steps:
- Go to Settings > Phone and tap Change Voicemail Password.
- Enter a new password.
- Tap Done. You will be asked to reenter the new password. Enter again and then tap Done.
Listen to your messages, then restart your iPhone. The Voicemail icon may appear now.
Enable notifications badges for Phone
If you do not see the badge indicating the number of unheard voicemail messages, ensure that notification Badges for the Phone app is enabled. Go to Settings > Notifications > Phone and turn on Badges.
Update your iPhone
It is possible that Apple may have been aware of this issue and released an update to address the missing voicemail icon option problem that you are facing. You should check for a iOS update. Here is how you can check for updates and if needed, how you can update:
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- Your device will check for updates.
- If there is an update, tap Update Now and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Check for Carrier settings update
If updating your phone does not help, now check to see if there is a carrier settings update. This may fix your problem as voicemails are under the control of the carriers. - Make sure that your iPhone has a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.

Reset network settings
