Can’t download iOS 27 beta fixes

Here’s how to fix the problem if you can’t download iOS 27 beta on your iPhone:

1. Make Sure Your iPhone Is Eligible for iOS 27 Update

Over time, Apple drops support for older devices, so not all iPhone models can update to iOS 27. If your device isn’t on the compatibility list, iOS 27 beta won’t show up, no matter what you do.

As long as you own an iPhone 11 or newer, you can download iOS 27 beta. That means the iPhone XR/XS generation is out, while every A13 Bionic handset forward, including the forthcoming iPhone 18 models, are included. Here’s the full list of compatible iPhone models that can run iOS 27:

  • iPhone 17e
  • iPhone Air
  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max

  • ‌iPhone‌ SE (2nd generation or later)

2. Make Sure You’re Enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program

If you haven’t enrolled your iPhone to Apple Developer Program, iOS 27 beta won’t show up. To check if you are enrolled, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates.

If the option doesn’t appear, simply enroll your iPhone in the Apple Developer Program to get the latest iOS 27 betas from Software Update. You don’t need to join Apple’s Developer Program, no payment is required, just sign in. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Apple Developer Center (developer.apple.com/account) and sign in with your Apple account information.
  2. Check the box for the terms and conditions and tap the Submit button.

After enrollment, restart your iPhone and enable the “Beta Updates” option in the Settings app to receive the latest iOS 27 beta updates on your iPhone. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and choose iOS 27 Developer beta.
  2. Go back and tap Update Now under the new “iOS 27 Developer Beta” option that appears.

If you don’t see the iOS 27 Beta appear, try swiping down on the Software Update page a few times to refresh it.

Note: Your iPhone must be signed in with the Apple Account you use to sign into to the Apple Developer website in order to access the beta software

3. Make sure you have a good Wi-Fi connection

If you are still experiencing problems downloading iOS 27 beta on your iPhone, it’s time to take a look at your network connection. A slow or unreliable Wi-Fi connection means your iPhone may not be able to download the update.

Make sure you’re connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network when you try to update. It’s worth restarting your router if you haven’t done so in a while. If you have continued issues, you might also try connecting to another network and seeing if you have the same issue there.

If you are unable to download iOS 27 beta on any Wi-Fi network, you can reset your iPhone network settings to start fresh. Note that this will clear out all network preferences you’ve saved, so you’ll need to reconnect to all previously saved Wi-Fi networks again. This will also reset any VPN configurations you use, as well as Bluetooth connection settings.

To reset network settings on your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings and tap General.
  2. Scroll down to Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  3. Select Reset at the bottom, followed by Reset Network Settings.
  4. Enter your passcode and confirm you want to do this.

Once you reset your Wi-Fi configuration, reconnect to a strong Wi-Fi network and try downloading the iOS 27 beta update again.

4. Make sure you have enough space on your iPhone

You need at least 15GB of space on your phone to download the iOS 27 developer beta. You need a lot of storage available to install the iOS 27 beta for several reasons; first, the update file itself is fairly large and requires free space to hold it, additionally you need a good amount of temporary space available during the installation process so that the software update can unpack and be applied. Without sufficient storage space available, the iOS 27 beta won’t be able to download, or install, because it doesn’t have free room to perform these necessary tasks.

To check your available iPhone’s storage space, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If you don’t have enough storage space, remove apps you don’t use (or even those you do but are huge, then you have to reinstall them when done with the iOS 27 beta update), offload apps, if you have a large iCloud plan you can use iCloud Photos to free up local space, or you can copy photos from the iPhone to a Mac and then remove them from the iPhone.

5. Force Restart your iPhone

If you still can’t update to iOS 27 beta, try forcing your phone to restart. Here’s how:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

Once you’ve done this successfully, go to Settings > General > Software Update and see if you can download the iOS 27 beta.

6. Use Finder or iTunes to Install the Beta Manually

If you can’t update to iOS 27 beta over-the-air, you can use your computer to update. Here’s how:

  1. On your Mac, go to this Apple Developer Program download page, find “iOS 27 beta,” click Download Restore Images and download the iOS beta software restore image for your iPhone model.
  2. Connect your phone to your computer and enter your device passcode or hit Trust This Computer.
  3. Open a Finder window and then click your device in the sidebar under Locations.
  4. Finally, hold down the Option key, click Check for Update and choose the iOS 27 beta software restore image you just downloaded from the Apple Developer website.

The iOS 27 developer beta software will begin to install on your iPhone. Wait for a few minutes and when your phone reboots, you should have access to iOS 27.
