Looking for the best way to block YouTube on your iPhone or iPad? Whether you want to protect your child from visiting YouTube or prevent yourself from getting distracted when working, you can quickly and effortlessly block YouTube on your device.
Below, we’ll tell you how to block YouTube on your iPhone or iPad without installing any third-party apps. Simply follow these steps:
Block the YouTube app on iPhone or iPad
One way to block YouTube on your iPhone or iPad is by setting restrictions with appropriate age-based ratings. To do this, you will need to add a Content Restriction in Screen Time. Here is how:
- Go to Settings > Screen Time. If you haven’t enabled Screen Time before, tap Turn On Screen Time and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Toggle on Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Tap Store, Web, Siri & Game Center Content.
- Tap Apps.
- Select 12 . If asked, enter your screen time passcode.
This setting will make it so your iPad or iPhone will only show apps that are rated 12 and below. This will cause the YouTube app to disappear from your device. This will block YouTube because YouTube’s age rating is 17 . A drawback for this solution is that you will also be blocking other 17 rated apps that you may have on your device. If you feel that this option is not ideal, you may consider the next one.
Apart from setting restrictions with age-based ratings, you can block YouTube on your iPhone or iPad by modifying your iTunes & App Store Purchases settings. But take note that you’ll need to delete the app if you use this method. Here is how:
- Remove the YouTube app from your device. Touch and hold the YouTube icon and then tap Remove App.
- Now go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > Installing Apps, and select Don’t Allow (if asked, enter your passcode).
- Now not only is YouTube gone, but also the installation of new apps, including YouTube, is restricted.
