iPhone Mirroring Timed Out on iPhone 18 Pro? Here's The Fix

Several users have reported that iPhone Mirroring times out when they try to use their iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max from their Mac.

iPhone Mirroring lets you wirelessly interact with your iPhone and its apps and notifications from your Mac. Your iPhone stays locked, so no one else can access it or use it to see what you’re doing.

Are you also getting this timed out error when you are trying to connect or maintain a connection? This article explains how you can fix this problem. Please try the troubleshooting steps below. Make sure to check your iPhone 18 Pro and Mac after each step to see if iPhone Mirroring starts working.

Note: Before trying the steps below, ensure that your iPhone and Mac meet the iPhone Mirroring system requirements. iPhone Mirroring can be used with only one Mac and one iPhone at a time, and it is currently unavailable in the European Union. Your devices must meet these requirements:

Your Mac is using macOS Sequoia 15 or later and is a Mac with Apple silicon or a Mac with the Apple T2 Security Chip.
Your iPhone 18 Pro is set up to use a passcode.
Your iPhone and Mac are signed in to the same Apple Account using two-factor authentication.
Your iPhone and Mac have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.
Your iPhone is locked and near your Mac. It can also be charging and using StandBy.
Your Mac is not sharing its internet connection or using AirPlay or Sidecar.
Your devices are within 30 feet (10 meters) of each other.

1. Is the connection pausing rather than timing out?

iPhone Mirroring automatically pauses the connection after periods of inactivity. Once you begin to use your iPhone directly, iPhone Mirroring automatically stops. To stop mirroring your iPhone, quit the iPhone Mirroring app or unlock your iPhone.

2. Follow the instruction in the window

If iPhone Mirroring cannot find your iPhone, cannot connect to it, or the connection is interrupted or times out, follow any instruction shown in the iPhone Mirroring window. If iPhone Mirroring is not available in your country or region, it tells you that it is unable to connect to your iPhone for that reason.

3. Update both devices and restart them

Install the latest software updates for Mac and for your iPhone 18 Pro, then restart both devices.

iPhone: go to Settings > General > Software Update. If there is an update, tap Download and Install.
Mac: choose Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Software Update.

To restart your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Shut Down, drag the power-off slider, then wait 30 seconds. To turn it back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. To restart your Mac, choose Restart from the Apple menu.

4. Check Handoff is turned on

Make sure that your iPhone 18 Pro and Mac have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Handoff turned on. Here is how you can check:

iPhone: go to Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity and ensure that Handoff is turned on.
Mac: choose Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, click AirDrop & Continuity, then ensure that Handoff is turned on.

5. Stop other heavy Bluetooth or Wi-Fi use

If either device is using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi intensively for another purpose, such as to stream audio or video to another device, discontinue that use and try again. It might also help to check for wireless interference.

6. Check VPN, security software and your Mac firewall

Check for VPN and other third-party security software on both devices. If you are using a VPN, make sure its configuration doesn’t prevent local networking, as that may interfere with some Continuity features.

Similarly, the firewall settings on your Mac should not be set to block all incoming connections. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Network in the sidebar, then click Firewall on the right. Click the Options button, then make sure that “Block all incoming connections” is turned off.

7. Revoke access and set up iPhone Mirroring again

Revoke access to your iPhone in iPhone Mirroring settings, then set up iPhone Mirroring again. Here is how:

Open the iPhone Mirroring app on your Mac.
From the iPhone Mirroring menu in the menu bar, choose Settings.
Choose Revoke iPhone Access.

Revoking access resets the iPhone Mirroring setup for that iPhone, so you will need to go through the setup process again. To set it up again, click iPhone Mirroring in the Dock, or open it from the Applications folder or Spotlight.
