The Apple TV app on Apple TV 4K can give you or several members of your household multiple kinds of recommendations. Genius Browse provides personalized content recommendations, and For All of You uses each profile’s taste and viewing history to find something that works for everyone. Shared with You shows movies and shows people send you in Messages.

If members of your household have profiles on Apple TV 4K, the Apple TV app can give you multiple kinds of recommendations, for you or for several of them:

  • Genius Browse provides personalized content recommendations that you can customize for yourself or together with other profiles in your household.
  • For All of You recommendations use each profile’s individual taste and viewing history to find something that works for everyone.
  • Shared with You recommendations appear when anyone sends you movie or show recommendations in the Messages app (available for the default profile only).

Explore Genius Browse

  1. Go to the Apple TV app on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Open the sidebar and then select either Search or Home.
  3. On the Search screen, enter a search term in the field. Then go to the TV Shows or Movies tab to browse related content.
  4. On the Home screen, do either of the following:

    • Navigate down to the Genius Browse row, then select a collection.
    • Navigate to a movie or TV show, press and hold the clickpad on the remote, then select Genius Browse from the pop-up menu.

    Suggested titles appear onscreen.

  5. Optional: To customize results, swipe up to Customize and then do any of the following:

    • Select For You to add or remove additional profiles (if available) to your suggestions.
    • Select TV Shows & Movies to filter by TV Shows or Movies.
    • Select All Genres to filter by genre.
  6. Browse suggested titles, or navigate down to generate additional results.

Set up For All of You recommendations

  1. Go to the Apple TV app on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Open the sidebar and then select Home.
  3. Navigate down to the For You row. Then go to the profile icon in the top-right corner of the row.

When highlighted, the button is labeled Set Up.

  4. Select Set Up. Select one or more profiles to add or remove.

If a profile doesn’t appear, select Add Profiles to Apple TV, then follow the onscreen instructions.

  5. When you’re finished, select OK.

Note: If you have only two profiles selected, the row is called For Both of You.

After you set up For All of You recommendations, select Edit in the top-right corner of the For All of You row to determine which profiles are included in the recommendations.

Turn Shared with You on or off

Whenever anyone sends you movie and show recommendations in the Messages app, they appear on the Home screen in the Apple TV app.

In Settings, you can turn the Shared with You row off.

  1. Go to Settings on Apple TV 4K.
  2. Go to Profiles and Accounts, then select the profile listed as Default.
  3. Go to Shared with You and then do either of the following:
    • To turn Shared with You on: Select Shared with You, then select Allow on this Device and confirm with the notification that appears on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.
    • To turn Shared with You off: Select Shared with You so that it’s set to Off.

Note: Shared with You is only available to the default profile. For help changing it, see our article, Change the default profile on Apple TV 4K.

See Adjust Apple TV app settings on Apple TV 4K for additional recommendations settings.

Not all features and content are available in all countries or regions or on all Apple TV hardware models.
