After installing a recent iOS 26 update, some iPhone users noticed that the Find My app suddenly stopped sharing their location. Instead of updating normally, Find My may display:
- Location Not Found
- Infinite loading/spinning
- No location updates for family members or friends
- Devices appearing offline even while connected
What makes this issue confusing is that most Find My settings may already look correct. Location Services is enabled, Share My Location is on, and the iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or cellular. Yet the problem still happens.
For many users, the actual fix ended up being a hidden System Services setting buried deep inside iOS. In this article, I explain what to do.
The Setting That Often Fixes Find My Location Not Found Issue
Go to: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services
Then scroll down and make sure these two options are enabled:
- Find My iPhone
- Share My Location
A lot of users discovered that "Share My iPhone" had turned itself off after updating iOS. Once it was re-enabled, Find My immediately started working again for the entire family group.
This setting is easy to miss because most troubleshooting guides only tell you to check the normal Find My settings.
Why This Happens
Find My depends on several different location permissions working together. Even if these are enabled:
- Find My iPhone
- Share My Location
- Precise Location
- Wi-Fi and Cellular
…the app may still fail if the System Services permissions become disabled or corrupted during an iOS update.
That’s why the issue often appears suddenly right after installing a new version of iOS.
Other Things Worth Checking
If enabling Share My in System Services does not help, try these additional fixes.
Verify Main Find My Settings
Open: Settings > Apple ID > Find My
Make sure these are enabled:
- Find My iPhone
- Share My Location
Then go to: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Find My
Enable:
- While Using the App
- Precise Location (turn on the button)
Restart the iPhone (soft reset)
A simple (force) restart can refresh location services and Apple account syncing:
- Press and release Volume Up
- Press and release Volume Down
- Hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears
Check Date & Time
Find My may stop syncing properly if the system time is incorrect. Go to: Settings > General > Date & Time.
Enable:
- Set Automatically
Wrong date and time may cause this issue.
Disable VPN Apps Temporarily
Some VPN apps may interfere with Apple’s location services. Even if the VPN is not actively connected, it can still affect Find My in some cases. I recommend deleting it fully.
Try disconnecting or temporarily removing the VPN and then test Find My again.
Reset Location & Privacy Settings
If the issue still continues, resetting location permissions may help. Go to: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy.
This resets all location permissions back to default, so apps will ask for permission again afterward.
