For devices running iOS 15.2 to iOS 16.7, you’ll find the “Erase iPhone” option located in the bottom right corner of the screen. However, if your iPhone is using iOS 15.2 or earlier, only the “Emergency Call” option will appear at the bottom of the screen. Conversely, if your iPhone is using iOS 17 or later, the “Erase iPhone” option is replaced with “Forgot Passcode?”

Try entering your passcode until the Erase iPhone option appears

Step 1: From your iPhone’s Lock Screen, try entering your passcode until the iPhone Unavailable" screen appears and your iPhone asks you to try again later. When you’re able to, continue trying to enter your passcode until the "Security Lockout" screen appears and you get the Erase iPhone option in the bottom corner of the screen.

Step 2: Tap Erase iPhone, then tap Erase iPhone again to confirm.

Step 3: Enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your Apple ID on your iPhone.

Here’s how to fix iPhone Unavailable with no Erase option using iTunes or Finder:

Step 1: Launch iTunes (Mac/PC) or open the Finder (Mac), but don’t connect your device just yet.

Step 2: Put your iPhone in recovery mode

  • For the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, SE (2nd or 3rd generation), or any iPhone X or later model: Press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons until the power off slider appears. Turn off your device with the slider. Connect your device to your computer while holding the side button. Keep holding the side button until you see the recovery-mode screen on your phone.
  • For the iPhone 7, 7 Plus or iPhone SE (1st generation): Press and hold the side (or top) button until the power off slider appears. Turn off your device with the slider. Connect your device to your computer while holding the volume down button. Keep holding the volume down button until you see the recovery-mode screen on your phone.
  • For the iPhone 6s or earlier: Press and hold the side (or top) button until the power off slider appears. Turn off your device. Connect your device to your computer while holding the home button. Keep holding the home button until you see the recovery-mode screen on your phone.

If you see the passcode screen, you need to turn off your iPhone and start again.

Step 3: Restore your iPhone with your Mac or PC

Locate your iPhone in the Finder, or in iTunes or the Apple Devices app if you connect to a PC.

In the iTunes or Finder, you’ll be asked whether you want to Restore or Update your device. Choose Restore. iTunes will download software for your device.

Wait for the process to finish. When the process finishes, your device will restart and show a setup screen.
At this point, the iPhone Unavailable message is gone. Simply disconnect your iPhone from the computer, then set up and use your iPhone.

Fix iPhone Unavailable no Erase option using iCloud

If you’d rather not deal with iTunes or Finder, there’s a roundabout way to get out of iPhone Unavailable screen using iCloud.

Step 1: Open icloud.com/find in a browser on your computer.

Step 2:: Use your Apple ID and password to log in to your account.

Step 3: Click All Devices at the top of the screen.

Step 4: From the list that appears, select your iPhone. The map will zoom in on your chosen device.

Step 5: Select Erase This Device from the device window that appears.

Step 6: Click Next.

Step 8: If you Enable Two Factor Authentication, enter the verification code sent to your other Apple device and click next..

Step 1: Open the Find My app on another iPhone or iPad.
