Is your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max stuck in a boot loop? A boot loop can be defined as a constant restarting of your system. This is when the iPhone keeps on resetting or rebooting itself randomly and sometimes constantly. Another similar issue is that the iPhone just shuts down unexpectedly without restarting. This problem may start after updating to the latest version of iOS. This article explains how you can fix an iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max that keeps restarting or crashing.

Due to any number of reasons, such as battery problems, software issues, bad apps, you may experience this problem. This is a serious problem. When your iPhone 18 Pro restarts unexpectedly, it may create inconvenient even disastrous results. It may cause you to lose data or miss important phone calls. Therefore it is really important to fix this problem now to prevent future occurrences.

This article will take you through some steps to fix it. Please note that the steps are listed in order, so start with the first one, and continue until your problem is resolved.

1. Force restart

Here is how you can force restart your device:

  • Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  • Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  • Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo (this might take longer than 10 seconds).

If your iPhone doesn’t turn on, charge your iPhone for one hour and then try again.

2. Check for software updates

This includes:

  1. iOS updates.
  2. Check for app updates.

Check for iOS software updates, and if there is an update available, then update your iPhone 18 Pro. Here is how:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap Software Update.
  • And if there is an update available, follow the onscreen instructions.

Furthermore, make sure that all of your apps are up to date. On your iPhone, update your apps. Here is how:

  • Open the App Store.
  • Tap the My Account button or your photo at the top of the screen.
  • Tap App Updates, then tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.

A poorly designed app may cause your problem. Some apps, especially outdated apps, may cause issues. If your problem occurs when you are using a certain app (e.g., when you are playing a game), that app may be causing your problem. You may want to delete this app or contact its developer for further help.

  • Open the App Store on your iPhone.
  • Search for the app, then tap it. If you can’t find it, tap the My Account button or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Apps > My Apps, tap “Not on this iPhone,” then select the app.
  • The app’s product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don’t see App Support, make sure that you’re signed in to the correct Apple Account.

3. Battery health

Since your iPhone 18 Pro is new, the battery is not likely to cause this problem. Basically, as your battery gets old, it may cause your iPhone 18 Pro to start to shut down unexpectedly.

The level of your device’s battery health may cause this problem. As I’ve mentioned above, the iPhone 18 Pro is new, however, you can check your battery health in settings to be sure. On your device go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. This page will tell if your battery requires service. So you will know if you need a new battery. If you see Service next to Battery Health, consider replacing your battery to restore full performance and capacity.

4. Check storage and free up space

Your iPhone requires enough storage. Low storage or no available storage can be a cause of the iPhone 18 Pro restarting. First, check your storage to find out what’s taking up the most space on your iPhone. Then you may want to delete some apps or photos etc to make storage space available.

Your device requires enough storage to run properly. And the lack of free storage space will reduce your device performance. For best performance, try to maintain at least 1GB of free space on your device.

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage to see your device’s storage. You can learn, for example, which apps are taking the most space. You may also see a list of recommendations that you may want to follow.

5. Overheating

Overheating can be a reason for this issue. When your iPhone gets too hot, it might run slower. To resume use of your device as quickly as possible:

  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Move your device to a cooler environment (away from direct sunlight).
  3. Allow your device to cool down.

If the problem continues, contact Apple Support and get it repaired or replaced by reserving a Genius Bar appointment.

6. Reset your device to factory settings and restore

If your problem continues, this is your last resort. Please note that this will remove all data from your phone. We strongly recommend backing up your iPhone before going further. You can use iCloud or your computer.

  • Use iCloud: Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.
  • Use your Mac: Connect your iPhone to your Mac using your USB cable. Open iTunes (macOS Mojave or earlier) or Finder (macOS Catalina or later), click General and then click “Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac” then follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Use your PC: Connect your device to your computer with your USB cable. Switch to the Finder on your Mac, or open the Apple Devices app on your PC. If your PC doesn’t have the Apple Devices app, or your Mac is using macOS Mojave or earlier, open iTunes instead. Click General in the Apple Devices app or Summary in iTunes. Click Back Up Now.

After backing up, it is time to erase your iPhone. This will wipe everything. Here is how:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  • Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  • Tap Continue.
  • Choose to keep or delete your eSIM. If you erase your eSIM, you need to contact your carrier to reactivate your cellular plan.
  • Enter your device passcode.
  • Enter your Apple Account password.
  • Wait for your device to erase.

Restore:

  • After erasing, you will see a Hello screen.
  • Simply follow the onscreen instructions.
  • To restore from iCloud, tap Set Up Manually, tap Restore from iCloud Backup, then follow the onscreen instructions. To restore from your Mac, connect your iPhone to it with a USB cable, then in the Finder sidebar select your iPhone, click Trust, then click Restore from this backup.
