  • When you block a phone number on an iPhone 15, calls and text messages from that number will no longer arrive on your phone.
  • You can still place calls and texts to the blocked number, and the recipient will be able to answer your call, but not your texts.
  • You can unblock phone numbers any time by removing them from the Block numbers page of the Phone app.

Note: information in this article apply to iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Thanks to Apple iPhones, getting in touch with family and friends is faster and easier. Not all calls are welcomed, though. Spammers, strangers, telemarketers, and other unwanted callers can get annoying. There’s a straightforward solution to stop specific callers, which is to block them.

If you’re thinking about blocking a number on your iPhone 15, here’s what will happen if you do so.

What happens when you block a number on an iPhone 15?

Simply put, after you block a number on your iPhone 15, that caller can no longer reach you. Phone calls do not ring through to your phone, and text messages are not received or stored.

This is an important point because if you change your mind and want to unblock the caller, you can, but any calls or texts which happened while the number was blocked will not be recovered. All new calls and texts, however, will now arrive on your iPhone normally.

Even if you have blocked a phone number on your iPhone 15, you can make calls and text that number normally – the block only goes in one direction. The recipient will receive calls and can answer and communicate with you.

The recipient will also receive your text messages, but will not be able to effectively respond, since you won’t receive incoming texts from the number you’ve blocked.

If you are sending an iMessage, your message won’t say Delivered or Read, as it would normally, because the Message app won’t get anything back to confirm the delivery or read receipt from the other party. You will still be able to send the message as an iMessage, so the message will have a blue bubble instead of green one if you are texting an Apple device.

How to block a number on iPhone 15

There are two methods for blocking a number on iPhone 15, and the one to use depends on whether a caller is in your Contacts app or not.

Via call history logs

If a number isn’t saved in the Contacts app, then you need to go through your call history. This can be accessed by opening the Phone app selecting the Recents tab. Tap the (i) icon next to the number you want to block. Avoid tapping on the actual number, or else you’ll start dialing.

Next, simply scroll down and tap Block this Caller. Mission accomplished.

Via the Contacts tab

If you’ve saved someone in Contacts, you can block them regardless of how recently they’ve called. In the Phone app, select the Contacts tab, then the name of the person you want to block. Scroll down through their listing and hit Block this Caller.

How to manage blocked contacts on iPhone 15

By going to Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts, you can manage the blocked numbers list and remove any if you’ve had a change of heart. Tap Edit to start.

Tap the red circle next to the number you want to unblock. When it disappears from the list, it’s unblocked. Tap Done to save your changes.
