The display of your iPhone looks green and you don’t know why. In this article, I’ll explain why your iPhone screen is green and show you how to fix the problem.

There are three possible reasons why your iPhone screen looks green:

  • Software crash.
  • Your iPhone got wet
  • Your iPhone’s display is damaged.

The steps below will show you how to diagnose and fix the real reason why your iPhone screen is green!

1. Basic steps to try

  • Ensure that your iPhone is dry, and your screen is clean.
  • If your phone has any case or screen protector, remove it.
  • Remove any connected cables like Lightning or USB-C accessories.
  • Restart your iPhone.

2. Hard Reset Your iPhone

One of the most common reasons why your iPhone screen looks green is because of a software crash. A hard reset may temporarily fix blue iPhone screen if a software crash caused the problem. Often times, software crashes may also freeze your iPhone — a hard reset can fix that too!

Here’s a breakdown of how to hard reset different iPhones:

  • iPhone SE, 6s, and earlier: Press and hold both the power button and the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo flashes onto the center of the screen.
  • iPhone 7 & 7 Plus: Simultaneously press and hold the power button and the Volume down button. Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears on the display.
  • iPhone 8, X, XS, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16: Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, then Volume Down button, then press and hold down on the side button until you see the Apple logo appear.

3. Update Your iPhone

A lot of iPhone 12 Pro users reported seeing a faint green tint or shade around all the edges of the screen after upgrading to iOS 18. When Apple released a subsequent iOS 18 update, they included a fix that resolved this bug for many people. I recommend looking for an iOS update by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. If an update is available, tap Update Now.

4. Getting a green screen iPhone repaired

There’s still a possibility that your iPhone screen is green because of a hardware problem or manufacturing defect. If your iPhone has recently been exposed to water or dropped on a hard surface, its internal components may be damaged, which are making its display look greenish.

If your iPhone is covered by AppleCare, bring it in to your local Apple Store and have them take a look at it. I recommend scheduling an appointment first, just to make sure someone is available to help you out.
