Starting with iOS 17, you can create custom stickers from photos to use in Messages and other apps. Here’s how to get started.

How to Turn a photo into a sticker in iOS 17

  1. Launch the Photos app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap a photo you want to turn into a sticker.
  3. Touch and hold the subject, then tap Add Sticker.
  4. The sticker appears in your stickers menu, which you can access when you use the iPhone onscreen keyboard or Markup tools.
  5. Tap Add Effect to apply a visual effect to it, such as making it look like a comic or adding an outline.
  6. Tap the close button to close the stickers menu.

How to turn a Live Photo into an animated sticker

You can turn the moving subject of a Live Photo into an animated sticker. Here’s how:

  1. Launch the Photos app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Live Photo you want to turn into an animated sticker.
  3. Touch and hold the subject of the Live Photo, slide it up until you see a duplicate image of the subject, then release it.
  4. Tap Add Sticker.
  5. The animated sticker appears in your stickers menu, which you can access when you use the iPhone onscreen keyboard or Markup tools.
  6. Tap Add Effect to apply a visual effect to it, such as making it look like a comic or adding an outline.
  7. Tap the close button to close the stickers menu.

Your stickers sync with iCloud, so they’re available on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices signed in with the same Apple ID.
